About

My name is Caoilte Guiry. I am a software engineer, originally from Galway, Ireland. I currently live in Dublin.

I originally studied Mechanical Engineering at NUI Galway, graduating in 2007 with a first class honours degree. In 2006 I undertook a work placement at ASTech, a company which specialises in web-based simulation and training technologies. I worked on a project called NOSTRA, an electrical switching simulation program, which uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to represent electrical line diagrams. The NOSTRA project proved to be quite successful, being used by ESB PowerGen, ESB Networks and EirGrid.

I am an avid open-source enthusiast, with a particular interest in Linux, the Python programming language, and the Django web framework. I also have many years experience using Java, Perl and PHP, and RDBMS systems such as MySQL and Postgresql.

In my free time I like to play music. I play the guitar, piano, violin, banjo and mandolin. I also spend a lot of time composing music.
